This section cover options to create and restore your squadron file backups.

It should be noted that these backups can only be opened by DB2000 and are password Protected.

If you select Dated Backup, a file will be created with a name starting with a letter (the letter will increment for each save) and the date of the save. The last letter represents your squadron code.

If you select User Name you have different naming options

To restore the backup file:

Or

But don't bet on these backups. This is the message I got when I tried to restore. When I clicked on OK, it shut down DB2000 and all saves were lost.

When I tried to install a primary database things really went down hill.

Heed this warning. I didn't and it cost me 3 hours to restore my DB2000.

Uninstalling and reinstalling DB2000 did not cure the problem of trying to re-activate the primary database because it leaves files behind.

I next deleted the DBC.mdb and .bak files which are created during the normal program run and reinstalled again. The program now picked up the DBC_dws.mdb and would not give the option of changing primary databases. Again I went thru the uninstall/re-install and deleted all DBC files other backup files leaving only the sqd?.ex_. Finally, I could get to the files I needed but I had to go thru all the selection of a District/Squadron and import the e-mail file again.

[note the time of the first two files is in accurate. It should be around 2:00 when 'A and B' files were created. The 4:43 times reflects when the DB2000 picked up the files as the primary database files.]

Delete unwanted database files has a couple of interesting twists. First of all two backups already exist, A and B but only 'A" is detected. You are given the message to "OPEN AT YOUR OWN RISK". Silly me, I thought I was deleting.

Just to see how well thinks went, I went back to delete unneeded files and no files appeared in the dialog box. BUT... When I opened Windows explorer I found all the files, including the 'B' version which had been created a couple of hours before.

Confused??? You're not alone.

Be sure to keep paper backups of all your changes. After sending updates to National, look thru the new roster and verify that all the changes were made.
