The mission of the United States Power Squadron is to
promote recreational boating skills and boating safety
through, hands-on training and civic activities,
while providing fellowship for our members.
The United States Power Squadrons® is America’s largest
non-profit boating organization, comprised of men and
women who are socially compatible and have a common love and appreciation
of recreational boating.
Established in 1914, United States Power Squadron has some 45,000 members
organized into 450 squadrons across the country and in the U.S.
territories. USPS has been honored by three U.S. Presidents for its civic
contributions and educating more than 4 million boaters in the last
half-century.
Chain-O-Lakes Sail & Power Squadron was formed in 1962, to serve
Lake and McHenry counties in Northern Illinois. Our members are boating families who
contribute to their communities by promoting safe boating on the water and
by offering boating safety courses for the public several times each year.
In addition to public
boating classes, we offer in-depth educational opportunities for
squadron members. We have
experienced instructors teaching courses on Seamanship, Piloting and
Position Finding, Celestial Navigation, Marine Electronics, Weather,
Sailing, Engine Maintenance, Cruise Planning and much more.
We have events planned throughout the year
including dinner meetings held at local restaurants. Our summer
activities include cruises for trailer boaters, sail boater, and power
boaters on small lakes, Lake Michigan, and river trips.
